A positional shot is an approach where you're not aiming to reach the green but are instead deliberately playing to a different part of the course to set up your next shot.
Common scenarios include:
- Laying up on a par 5 – When reaching the green in two isn't possible, you may choose to lay up to a preferred distance for your third shot.
- Recovering from trouble – If your tee shot lands in a difficult position (e.g. rough or trees), you might need to play sideways or back into the fairway just to get back on track.
By marking a shot as "Positional", it will be excluded from your Approach, Short Game, and Club performance stats. This helps ensure your data remains clean and accurately reflects your performance on true scoring shots.
